- Why muscle (not weight loss) is the key to medicine, obesity, and longevity
- Why age and hormones (even in menopause) don't matter with the right lifestyle
- How the "hidden" psychology of your mind can unlock more personal (and physical) growth than you ever thought possible, and how to tap into that mindset

Hello Wits and Weights family. This is a little experimental podcast drop in your feed where I'm recording in my car with my Voice Memos app, and I wanted to share something that I came across today from a fellow podcaster. Her name is Sarah Krieger. We're gonna be doing a collaboration in early 2025. And she said something that struck a chord in me and she said I like to help clients solve what's in the weeds and not always look at the bigger picture. And I thought, oh, that is so cool. That is the opposite of how most people think, or even myself, when I've said, hey, let's step up and let's look at the big picture and the big strategy and our goals and not get caught up in the details. And at the same time, I talk all the time about how important the details are. And so sometimes we need to get caught up in the weeds, we need to drill down all the way down, kind of like seeing the trees in the forest so that we can focus on the process and taking one step forward.
Speaker 1:And I'm going to tie this to another quick little story of somebody who reached out to me for a rapid nutrition assessment. We're getting on a call soon. And then he reached out by email. He has a very similar story to mine in that he had struggled for years with his weight. He didn't really lift, he didn't understand body composition and tracking and food and everything. And then he finally discovered lifting through. I believe it was starting strength very similar to my story and he started to make progress and truly gain muscle. But then he said you know, I'm still not understanding. If I want to lose the 40 pounds of fat that I've added to my frame, what do I do for protein? I feel like I have to eat a lot of protein. I'm not sure how to do that outside of my conventional food choices. Help me just figure out this one thing. And I thought for you the listener, wouldn't it be great to get here and talk about the weeds and how usually there is just one or two prime movers in your life that if you just focused on that and forgot everything else, it would still massively transform your life and what you're trying to do. And that could be protein. That could be your lifting, like in this case. The gentleman is already lifting consistently and he just was totally confused about protein and in his case it came down to he was thinking he needed a lot more than he did.
Speaker 1:Right, and now we're getting to the weeds where you'll hear people say you got to get one gram per pound. Well, at two, I think 285. And he's trying to get to 245, his target body weight of 245, that would imply 245 grams, but in reality we only need something like 0.77, maybe even as low as 0.6 grams per pound, and it's plenty, especially when we're trying to lose fat, and that puts them around as low as 180 190. So I said look, if you aim for 200 to 220 and, by the way, we haven't even gotten on our call yet I'm trying to solve this problem because that's what I do. I said let's just remove the stress right now. Let's get in the weeds and understand that the number is maybe not the right target and then, once you have that, then we can get into the details of okay, what do you eat? Do you eat meat? Do you eat fish? Do you eat dairy? Do you eat beans? No, let's just make it. Figure it out, get in the weeds and just make it work.
Speaker 1:Come up with a plan and for a lot of you listening, the thing holding you back is you are overwhelmed. There is too much information. You're trying to do too much. You're trying to take care of too many sources of information all at once. Pick the one thing. Is it steps? Is it getting to the gym? Is it the emotional eating? Whatever, it is All right.
Speaker 1:So that's what I wanted to get on the horn today to talk about from my car. I hope this resonated with you in some way, inspired you. If nothing else, today is Saturday when this is coming out, but whenever you're listening to this, I want you to think about how you're going to take action on this, and a very simple way to do that is join our Facebook group. Look up Wits and Weights on Facebook or click the link in the show notes, and I'm going to ask you to do that because in there, that's exactly where we can help you for free. Come up with the one thing in the weeds that will help you unlock that transformation. All right, thanks for listening to Wits and Weights. I'll talk to you all next time.
